The Tennessee Unarmed Security Guard License is required for anyone providing professional security services without a firearm.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and have good moral character. Individuals with felony convictions, theft, or violent offenses are generally disqualified unless five years have passed since completion of the sentence or probation. Applicants must also be mentally competent and free from habitual drunkenness or substance abuse.
Tennessee requires completion of a state-approved four-hour unarmed guard training course covering legal limitations, emergency procedures, observation and reporting, and professional conduct. After training, applicants must submit fingerprints for a background check and pay a state licensing fee through the Department of Commerce and Insurance.
Unarmed licenses must be renewed before expiration, and the state allows a 90-day grace period for late renewal with monthly penalties.
This training fully satisfies Tennessee Code Annotated §62-35 and prepares students to meet state standards for employment as a licensed unarmed security officer.
This four hour class is provided by state-certified trainers from the Absolute Protection Academy staff every Monday.
