Tennessee Security Guard Active Shooter Certification

The Active Shooter Training for Security Guards course satisfies the requirements established under Tennessee Code Annotated §62-35, as amended by Public Acts Chapter 367 (2023). This 8-hour class is mandatory for any armed security officer providing services in or at public schools, public charter schools, private schools, or church-related schools within the state of Tennessee.

Training covers threat recognition, response coordination, communication under stress, and tactical decision-making during an active shooter event. Instruction follows state-approved standards and integrates guidance from law enforcement and Department of Homeland Security resources.

Armed guards must complete this course prior to working in covered facilities and retain proof of completion for renewal or inspection by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

This training is conducted the first Friday of each month by state-certified instructors from Absolute Protection Academy. On call classes can also be arranged. Contact our office for details.
